AMERICA
Just when we thought we were done with the British, we were dead wrong. Dealing with impressment was one thing, but President Madison was fed up with our neighbors across the pond. And so, our great leaders said, "Lets start another War!" But, our over-confidence came at a price, as we were challenging the greatest navy in the world. Many lives were lost on both sides, but America was able to win a few great battles, the most notable the Battle of New Orleans, with future president Andrew Jackson leading out troops. It was one of the greatest victories ever, with less than 10 men killed or injured for the Americans. It was a bloodbath for the British, and we were finally able to boast as the nation that beat Britain twice!
In the beginning of the war, America was able to claim minor naval victories near Lake Erie, where the famous Captain Oliver Hazard Perry said quote, "Don't give up the ship!". This later became one of the mottoes of the U.S. Navy. But, Britain realized that we wanted a fight, and they gave it to us. The British launched a full scale attack on the east coast, sending both Admiral Alexander Cochrane, and General Robert Ross. The British went so far as to burn the White House, in August of 1814. But we came back at the Battle of Baltimore. General Ross was killed by a sharpshooter, forcing the British to reconsider. We were still going to give the British a run for their money. Now, the British navy wanted to make their move in from the sea. They launched a full scale navy battle at FT. McHenry. They were steamrolling us at first, but America wiped out the big artillery and heavily damaged the British. And by morning, the British were in full retreat.
